I forgot to mention things on the brighter side.....
Ericsson announced a $200 million deal to provide mobile communications in Venezuela. Thats going to sell a lot of handsets.

The Commquest buyout today makes VLSI, LSI, & DSPC takeover candidates; Those are the only companies I can think of with a large percentage of wireless/set-top business that are not already captive. The best match for VLSI would probably be Harris, which has a strong line of RF chips, including CDMA, but lacks the wireless baseband technology, exactly what VLSI has. Interestingly, Harris does produce CMOS, having taken over the RCA CMOS logic and data converter lines.
