A nice post on the Yahoo AOL Board, which pretty much summarises the situation:

Things are shaping-up for a nice haircut on AOL.

- Super-inflated valuation with ridiculous PE ratio
- MCI/Yahoo venture launching soon
- Sprint/Earthlink partnership announced
- AT&T investing $1B in @home/Time Warner (Pathfinder)?
- AOL Price increase will be used by these others for marketing
- Cable modems/ADSL getting Cable co's & TELCO's into ISP
- Slowing subscriber growth in-light of the above.
- Holidays probably helped last qtr. - what about next Qtr?

All the makings of a downslide on the horizon. Just need one bit of bad news and
they will be running for the doors on this one.
