Wed 11 Feb 98 News Release
Mr Randy Turner reports
The drilling program on the Wekusko property has begun. Situated in
northern Manitoba about 45 miles southeast of Snow Lake, the property
incorporates 64 claims that cover about 13,500 ha. The Wekusko property is
held under terms of a joint venture in which SouthernEra Resources is
operator and Winspear and Consolidated Samarkand Resources are the other
joint venture partners. Winspear's interest in the property was acquired
when the company merged with Antler Resources in January 1997.
A drill program comprising five holes (1628m) was undertaken on the Wekusko
property in March - April 1997. Within a thick complex sequence (+100M) of
highly altered and prospective volcanic rocks similar to those that host
base metal mines elsewhere in the Snow Lake district, a thin exhalite zone
(<1m) was intersected as well as three narrow zones containing interesting
copper and zinc values with associated silver.
A reinterpretation of all data from these claims has highlighted several
areas where additional geophysics and drilling are warranted. As a result,
a program costing about $400,000 was approved by the joint venture that
will test these additional targets with about 3,000m in 10 - 12 drill
holes. Winspear's share of this program is expected to be approximately
$200,000.
The principal focus of Winspear Resources remains its continuing diamond
exploration program in the NWT and elsewhere. On its Camsell Lake property
where the company is operator, a $2.7 million exploration program is
underway during which it is planned to extract a 100 - 200 tonne mini-bulk
sample from a kimberlite dyke at Snap Lake and to test a variety of other
targets for kimberlite pipes in a 7300m drill program.
