A huge upside surprise in the database-software industry looks set to spark a lot of interest in Thursday's session (earnings estimates from First Call):

Informix (IFMX:Nasdaq) reported fourth-quarter earnings of 5 cents per share, smashing past the 11-analyst consensus estimate of a 16-cent loss. Published earnings tables report that the year-ago figure was a loss of 5 cents, but First Call reports a year-ago profit of 22 cents. Informix surged to 8 5/16 after hours from its close of 7 3/8, according to Reuters.

I posted a reply - and it went into the aether. So- a short synopsis.
Whay would I eat crow? Read my last posts - the earnings and price move were no surprise to me. As I said a few weeks ago, I simply saw ( and see) better opportunities (oracle is up 50% also from that time...braodvision spoke for itself, etc etc). Instead of averaging down, hoping for the best (I assume you've made $ finally from this play), you could have made much, much more using the $ tied up in informix for other plays. Getting in to informix in the past week was a no-brainer. I'm surprised at the number of shorters that got caught with their pants off, what with the whisper #, etc.
If you are in the black, I'm happy for you. I'm glad whan anyone wins on a bet, though I don't feel bad when someone loses on a bet. "You place you're bet, you takes your chances'. My bets have included informix, short and long. I made money on this move too, and you shouldn't be surprised to hear that.
