Graphics chips are a crowded market.

It was immensely profitable a couple of years ago when Intel decided to enter the market, but now all the profits have been squeezed out and it's a commodity market. I don't see any special advantages for Intel that would make it worthwhile.

Note - Intel will be combining the i740 with the 440BX - most likely on the 0.25 micron process - to add yet another "component" to address the "low end" of the PC spectrum.

This is an exciting possibility. Do you have any idea when it might be out and the price? Is there anything to prevent S3 from purchasing the assets of another dissolving company - OPTi, and doing something similar? Or, producing a chip set with graphics and sound functionality? Are all the graphics chip companies without chip set expertise going to be out of business in a couple of years?

After the announcement of moving flash to 0.25, I hope they more other products onto the process, including networking chips.
