Sure, but I recall that the early COVID-19 strain was not all that deadly in of itself, but the problem was that it caused the immune system in some people to go into overdrive which was deadly, especially for those with cofactors. The body's reaction to CV was the killer; just as the politicians reaction to the disease helped kill society.

Now that most people have been exposed, the immune response to the similar mutants is not as overwhelming for most.

Does that sound reasonable?

Now, if you accept that there was an over reporting of deaths from COVID-19 due to inclusion of deaths with COVID-19 and financial incentives to indicate that the death was COVID-19 related, then perhaps the actually deaths from the disease (reported for 2020 USA around 350k) was actually not much different from a bad flu year which kill upward of 80k in the USA?

Even accepting the reporting as valid - that is 5 times a bad flu year, terrible, but not even a magnitude greater.

Now for my sarcastic remark:
Besides, they do have a way to prevent COVID-19 transmission which was worked out in its early days -
go out in a very large and crowded group and protest social injustice. Literally a medically approved prophylactic!
