I've spoken to two BAT engineers on the phone in the last week. Both have stated clearly, when asked about why they haven't filed patents, that BAT doesn't believe in them. They claim it doesn't stop someone from copying and marketing your product, it just gives you the right to sue. They said that when a patent is filed, drawings and other proprietary technical information must be disclosed publicly. They would rather hold the technology close to their chest. I asked why someone couldn't get their hands on one of the modified engines and just reverse engineer it. The response was vague. Like "Oh no, it would take years for another company to go into production, even if they could figure it out." That kind of convoluted thinking makes me nervous.

Can anyone validate or refute this logic?
