Z-1st 1/4 STOCK PICK CONTEST-Entries due by 2-15-98

Zstock First Quarter Contest- Rules

1. Contest begins at the market open 2-16-98 and ends on 3-31-98 at the market close. Beginning price will be the price of the stock at the close on 2-14-98.
2. Everyone is welcome to enter and this includes lurkers and or non-SI members..
3. Two (2) stocks will be picked by each participant. Please make sure that your picks are quoted on Yahoo, since the daily updates are generated from this site.
4. The stock must be priced over $5.00, therefore no "penny" stocks.
5. A stock can not be sold once it has been entered into the contest, even if it no longer looks attractive to the contestant. This is a buy and hold contest.
6. This contest is not a reflection of one's trading abilities since stocks must be held throughout the duration of the contest.
7. Contestants are encouraged, but not required, to provide a short T/A (technical analysis) and or F/A (fundamental analysis) of their stocks. Basically a rationale as to why you picked this particular stock. Using the excuse that the dog dumped on the Wall Street Journal is not acceptable. <gg>
8. All persons entering must have their picks to Paul or posted on this board by 11:59 p.m. CST on 2-15-98. Any picks received after this deadline will be disregarded.
9. The winner of the contest will be the individual who has the largest percent increase in their two (2) stocks averaged together, at the end of the contest on 3-31-98.
10. The winner will be awarded a prize to be determined at a later date.

Please post your two (2) picks here to me or email to Paul at paulzim@abilene.com.

News on ASND - (From CBSMarketwatch): Ascend Communications Inc. closed higher on positive
comments from several sources. SoundView Financial
Group upgraded the networking equipment maker to "buy"
from "hold" after International Data Corp. said 10 of the 12
top local exchange carriers have selected Ascend to provide
access to Internet Service Providers. Michael Davies, analyst
at Utendahl Capital Partners, said the company's new
products, improving sales from its Cascade business and the
new 56K modem standard have put the company in a more
positive light recently. Davies said he sees upside for Ascend
in the current quarter as a result of a new $150 million
contract. Ascend shares closed up 3/8 at 33 7/8. larry
