Absolutely no need for anything past unwired planet and voice calls on my planet.

While video teleconferencing is a nice idea, how are you going to split up your 4" diag display between you and four other people? Teleconferencing on a desktop is neat and powerful, though. A mobile method appears to be as unwieldy as trying to hold Ericy's WinCE PDA up so that the IR link to their cellphone is maintained.

My use for the internet connection.
o movie start times
o news
o finding phone numbers and locations using Switchboard
o stock prices
o SI
o email

Aside from SI, Switchboard is my favorite net app. Not only can I find the phone number, but it can also use the Mapquest system to show me how to get there from here.

But, I can also call 411 and get the same results for $0.25 on the cellphone today. I just have to be organized. Movie times? $0.35 for a newspaper plus get bonus news, weather, stocks, and prices. Or, I can call the theater voicemail thing directly.

SI? Well, I won't have a useable keyboard on a PDA, so may as well justify that $1,500 computer and $40/month cablemodem. Plus, reading long texts isn't very cool when your display is only 4" across. If it was larger than that, it would be left in the glovebox a bit more often in my household.

If I had a choice between a $1,500 mobile 3G terminal and a $1,500 HDTV set, which do you think I will choose?

You have heard this before: does anyone need mobile computing anywhere except when stuck on an airplane? Will ETSI, IS95, or Globalstar help in that situation? All three appear to stop working due to doppler shift at 600mph. Iridium included.

General question for Raymond and Tero:
Am I understanding ETSI correctly? It appears they don't want to use the GSM MAP protocol and instead want to use DECT on the voice side of UTRA. What's the difference?
