One addition that I would like to add. While asnd was trending down this morning I was buying my normal day-trading shares. (While holding a core position). I was buying in 500 share blocks down to 32 1/2. The interesting thing was that I was being filled in odd lots, 33,53,177,217, at a time. As if they were having a difficult time filling my order. What do you make of this pete?

When I went to sell them in the afternoon, they went fast and in full 500 blocks.

Ted

Sector
this is reference to the TCG mentioned from the article
The ISP is looking to utilize TCG
CERFnet to offer new, innovative
services, including an integrated voice
and Internet traffic package. CERFnet
is part of the Teleport
Communications Group (TCG), which AT&T earlier this year
announced it would acquire (NW, Jan. 12, page 1).

what probably happened was that everyone finally decided that Ascend was worth something after all and started piling in.

But then, they noticed that Safeway was an even better buy so they sold all their Ascend shares, thereby driving Ascend's price back down, and began accumulating Safeway.

We're lucky Ascend stayed at the level it did......

okay, maybe it's not that funny but I couldn't resist.

3. Spike up today on lots of big blocks - clearing the way ahead of preset sell orders and possibly signalling the return of momentum players to ASND.

Sector,

I don't know about your other items, but I got the impression today that the spike was a test run for a 35 close at February options expiration, somewhat consistent with your observation.

Perhaps as grease for the above, there has been some non-news:
official ASND/ATT announcement (not), ML upgrade (not), takeover (not).

If we hover near 35 by mid-week next week, and some very positive news is then released, it certainly would be difficult to hold ASND to 35 at expiration (remember expiration about 2 months ago, when they had the stock right at 25 until the LU rumor popped in the last 2 hours of trading).
