Americans are fugly LAZY mostly and entitled feeling...

Not really. But, it is true that the quality you get in anything... tends to be a reflection of the quality of leadership, at some level... What you see from individuals tends to be a function of what they've been taught (by parents), and what they've learned... that conflicts with what they were taught. And, it is true that there is a concerted effort being made to enable that "mostly" you suggest... which has thus far "significantly" failed to fully accomplish its goal in that regard...

But, the same lack of leadership and "Error in focus"... doesn't just make wealthy people poor, impoverishing later generations corrupted by the systems they're subjected to, or making them unwilling to work, while demanding compensation in return for taking away their livelihoods, motivation, self respect, and self esteem...

It also pisses them off... as does "being abused" as "being lied to"... and being made to look foolish... or, being blamed for doing to themselves what has been done to them...

And, from there... while ignoring the potential implications in the preceding, we could wander back into "media controls" and "propaganda"... the internet... and the impact likely to result from adoption of generative AI...

China's all ginned up... the U.S., for now, still, are slacking off... or, "have a lot of capacity in reserve"...

China's media has been working overtime trying to generate "nationalist sentiment"...

American media has been... working overtime trying to suppress it... and, along with it... sell acceptance of the massive failures by and under-performance of the political class... that, for two years, has been, and continues becoming more and more obvious by the day...

No quibbles, though, with the higher level of motivation apparent in most immigrants... which I think has always been true... likely always will be... just as a function of that being a requisite in having the get up and go to get up and go... Those without it... don't bother making the effort... unless forced.

It is one obvious reason that sustaining a rule set that offers people that lure... as an intrinsic set of advantages inherent in the system, that accrue to one and all, simply by being there... also advantages those countries that do manage to make themselves attractive enough to be a destination for immigrants, rather than a source of them...

But, I'm not buying the argument that China is poised to win some major benefit from AI... it necessarily being tasked to re-enforce the state control over what people are, or are not, allowed to say about... China's recent, and deliberate, violations of American sovereignty...

It will prove an interesting challenge, I think... for China... and, should handily prove the point... that as the computer age resumes making progress, again, from here... "the quality and quantity of the data available" will prove relevant... as suggested... but, GIGO is a "real" issue... that isn't subject to "tweaking" to ensure the PC niceties are all properly instilled in the data streams and outputs... as demanded by the censors ?

I can see the headline on the cartoon... the white lab coat AI data scientist reading the output: "the computer says, you're a moron, and it can't take this bullshit, anymore"...

Lying to people, misdirecting them... denying access to, or altering the information they have... can change opinions... (and, opinions can matter... which is why they bother blowing smoke up your butt)... but, it can't change reality...

Either CO2 causes global warming or it doesn't... but, a list of corrupt people all lying who say it does... might change opinion, and policy, and money flows: but, it has ZERO impact on the fact in physical reality ?

It's not a "thresh-hold" issue... where it might tip either way, depending on what our opinions are ?

But, there are also real costs tied to the lies told... massive and avoidable waste and inefficiencies that are imposed in result of the errors imposed... and, obviously, not just in the one instance...

The western media, today, like China... believe that their brand of "curated" data is "better"... as it reduces the "noise" that they find so disturbing... which noise we (thankfully) can see as a constant presence in, and often even dominating the internet...

That misses the point, entirely, though... with this now morphing into "the same subject" as that re "science" and "politics" in the "global warming" debate...

Truth telling and good faith... turn out to matter...

If the "best science" wins... those left stuck doing "politics" and labeling it science to sell it... or, otherwise, fudging the data, because their careers, on survival, depend on it... are screwed...

I don't expect it to change anything in human behavior... liars will continue telling lies... including that they can lie about "what the AI said" as well as they can about "what the science said"...

But, when obvious fallacy is made that easy to identify, even for people with no clue ?

Lying more, cooking the data (or the books) harder... doesn't begin to solve the problem it creates...
