soup, will the buyout of the clones not show in the annual report as either cash or shares?
It was my understanding that treasury shares were used for Power, not cash. What other cloners needed buying out?? Did not the others just need a certain advance notice of termination, and no money etc.

Soup, thanks for the good work. I agree with your customer on just about all points. The market views on Apple are off, but until they change the stock will stay right about $20. Once things start to become clear the stock will move up. The current product line up and NC thing and new CEO? are all positive bullets to start this stock higher.

Good Luck in Trading

* Current market sentiment on AAPL is still in the pits. Consensus is still not *if* AAPL will die but *when*.

This comment must be qualified.

I think Apple is dead as a PC manufacturer. That battle is lost. Apple can still make a comeback as a graphic workstation manufacturer (a la SGI), NCs and high-end servers powered by Rhapsody, but the core PC market is taken (Bill has posted here figures showing how unlikely a comeback is). Apple can only nibble at the edges.

(Not that the edges are anything to sneer at: Silicon Graphics, NCD and SUN make handsome money there).

I'm neutral on Apple because I think it now has a chance to make it in these new niches.

Apple's current fair value should be around $31. Based on the PE
ratios of those in computer hareware/software, your friend's estimated
price is pretty close to reality.

News.com today covered a fair report:

news.com

"Maintaining a steady supply of notebooks, which typically represent
higher profit margin than desktop computers, will be essential to
Apple as it tries to repeat or exceed its first quarter financial
feat of turning a $47 million profit."

Still, the shareholder's meeting is held in air. What are the
major reasons for Apple to postpone? I believe having not chosen a
CEO is one, new products in late Feb, early March is the second, and
good news for current quarter report is the third and most important
factor. Anybody wants to speculate?

Have a good long weekends to everybody and expect to break $20 next
week.
