Here is an explanation from Wall Street Strategies:

Of course Greenspan's comments helped the market, but
the reversal was triggered by takeover
enthusiasm. Many of the names we've
mentioned recently exploded. ASND, TLAB and
NSCP, also U lift the airlines and is said to be
the prettiest girl at the ball. CREAF exploded in
part to scuttlebutt that INTC is ready to gobble
them up. It's all very heady stuff...
