I kept my post simple hoping you'd be able to get the main point = mind-reading as a false premise.

War should be like the Olympics.

First, a declaration of what is at stake is made, followed by a festival much like Carnival or Oktoberfest.

Then, all generals, defense bureaucrats, pro-war politicians, and executives of defense contractors on each side battle it out with swords and knives in one free-for-all at an arena where the spectators consist only of the parents of draft-age youngsters.

The survivors win the war. Their country gets the agreed-upon prize.

Edit: inspired by a scene in All Quiet On The Western Front. A book/movie everyone should read and see.
