I will probably sell SMHB somewhere around 6 and switch to opportunistically accumulating its non-leveraged version (forgot the ticker).

As far as leveraged ETFs go, SMHB doesn't have much of a decay. So in that sense it is safer than most. But the underlying, being made of mostly small cap REITs, has serious exposure to economic downturns. It is for you to decide if the risks are worth the rewards.
