I once took care of a kid who loved computers. Problem was, when he used his mom's computer, he was fine, but when he used the "cheap" (his words) computers at school, which had blinking red cursors, he had a seizure. Very reproducible. We thought it was pretty weird, but he was otherwise fine, so no meds, just no computer at school (at least until the school bought "better" ones).

So, its not just the Japanese.
