Something to watch:

ViaSat has patented a new technique for two way sat communications dubbed PCMA. It effectively doubles the throughput of satellite systems in terms of bits/sec/Hz. What does it mean for investors? For Loral investors, think of effectively doubling the internet traffic through Orion's or Skynet's tranpsonders, or getting twice as much virtual network business over the same transponder. Loral's rural telephony plan can now handle twice as many subscribers. Satellite economics are already impressive, but if you could double your potential revenues per transponder, remembering that your initial capital expenditures and operating costs will remain virtually the same, you now have a gold mine. For ViaSat? Make your own conclusion. The technology is patented, so competitors would have to pay up to use it. The potential applications are staggering. If the technology proves out completely, every sat owner would have to use it to be competitive. It does not have a place in one-way transmissions, such as the television feeds on Telstar(by the way, did anyone else surf the transponders on Telstar 5 and see what a porn king Loral is???). There are also other places it won't give you an advantage. I advise any one with an interest to go to www.viasat.com and read the white paper on the technology.
