Valueman,

off topic

regarding ViaSat, I read the recent news but lack the technical knowledge to understand the ramifications. What I still don't understand is:

1. whether ViaSat will ultimately be a competitor or an ally.

2. how does such a small company survive in the land of giants? aren't they vulnerable to being gobbled up on moments notice (not that it is necessarily bad for shareholders)?

3. the valuation is amazing. Most of these smaller "start-ups", for lack of a better term, usually has sky high PEs and are already priced at expectations for the next century. VSAT, if they hit $.62 for the yr would have a trailing PE of just the low 20s. Am I missing something here.

The ViaSat thread is inactive. May be we can get a few QCOMers and LORers to get that thread going. I hold some ViaSat now and think it may have as much potential as QCOM and LOR.

Hi Valueman:

I notice you got really excited by Viasat's PCMA technology.
It is a clever idea which is amazingly similar to the method
used to remove echoes created by hybrids in phone lines.
The one question I have is how would VSAT protect this
patent? If you implement a signal cancellation scheme,
I can easily devise another scheme that would work just
as well. Because I am not a patent expert, I am wondering
how broad can VSAT make its patent claim? If they can block
PCMA implementation in any form by any other competitor, it
should be an immediate strong buy, as you astutely noticed.

Best regards,

Bernard Levy
