Don't give up on this company!

I own a Syjet external SCSI 1.5GB drive and I think this is a damn good drive. Unfortunately, I got ahold of two older model drives that had problems ejecting the cartridge. It looks like Syquest has changed their design because the eject mechanism is totally smooth now.
I have no problems with it and it looks like they changed the power adapter design too. It no longer has a long power cord coming out
of it making it easy to tote the SCSI external version around anywhere.

I use my Syjet drive as a second disk drive. One cartridge has
all my development tools on it and whenever I need to use it, I
simply pop the cartridge in and program away. When I need to
access my business files, well, you guessed it, I pop in
my Quicken cartridge. Whenever I need to get multimedia files, I pop in my multimedia disk And so on. This is a tremendous cost
effective way for me to avoid having to buy hard disks.

Could it be that the sales of the Syjet drives were hampered by returns on the faulty Syjet ejecting drives? I had two drives I returned to my local computer store because of the cartridge jamming.
I got the newer model and can't be happier.

I just visited several computer stores today here in Silicon Valley. In every store I see Syjet drives stocked with very little IOMega Jaz drives sitting on the shelves. I see lots of Zip drives, but doing the math, Sparq is a better alternative.

EIDE wins PC World Awards

In the latest issue of Pc World the EIDE Syjet was awarded for best overall removable in its class. It beat out the Jazz for storage costs, speed and performance. The only downside was the cartridges if dropped had a tendancy to suffer bad clusters.

It was also amazing to find out the parallel version of the Syjet trounced the parallel version of the Jazz by a wide margin.

I would not recommend a Zip to incorporate music tracks. The Syjet or Jazz should do nicely.

You may want to post your questions in an e-mail discussion group called 'EPS' ... it's geared towards Ensoniq EPS users, but there's a wealth of additional music/computer knowledge floating around there. I used to subscribe to the list, if I can dig up the info on it I'll post it for you.

"some OEMs are only bundling their musical equipment with Syquest now. Do you know which OEMs had made that change? Will the Sparq fit my needs or is the Syjet a much better choice for music?"

Vestax's rack mount hard drive recording units OEM Syjet, and Syjet is the recommended drive for Digidesign Protools. It appears to me that the use of Iomega drives is largely due to the ability to find disks for it more than anything else, since Roland's choice of the tiny 100MB Zip for digital audio recording is nearly idiotic. For your sampler, you should be able to connect a Syjet, since Syjet is SCSI you need to use this drive. You might get on the E-mu mailing list, I've seen posts note that they get it to work fine. You might even be able to connect the sampler to the computer by SCSI, but this becomes more complex.

You can get info about the mlist from
