Hi Paul - Look what Sun's new Java API now does with a NT servers and
IBM Network Station.

Vendors roll out latest speech recognition software

From the article:
"...IBM's network computer-based speech technology is based on the company's ViaVoice technology and uses Sun Microsystems Inc.'s forthcoming Java API for speech to communicate between voice on a Windows NT server and IBM Network Station 1000 clients..."

=====================================================================

Look's to me that Sun's goal is to integrate all their technology together to obtain the best "enterprise" customer solution package.

In the above example Sun provides the core software JAVA interface, a software only solution. I suppose the configuration could have been built around a Sun Server and IBM Network Station clients if overall network performance was a factor for the customer.

EKS

Chicago traders bet on NT.

infoworld.com

Favorable review of NT vs Unix. However, it seems to me NT is still not ready to do the entire job in large scale applications. How many transactions occur on NYSE or NASDAQ vs CHX? E-commerce will require
more and more larger servers.
