Ali,

It does seem like dumping, doesn't it? I have been told that the reason the i740 is so large is that it was made using a gate array and that about half of the core cells aren't even used. I know a guy that just layed out an advanced graphics chip that's less than 100mm^2 with 6.6 million transistors on a .35u process. That's 18 times as dense as the Intel chip.
