....thanks for your thoughtful reply............two questions that I feel we should ask is why was Killietalk so popular in its day?..... and why are the AKA forums not?...........personally, I think it was due to a combination of factors.........1) in its day, Killietalk was probably the primary venue for discussion with no dilution from elsewhere....2) open to anyone 3) ease of use.....a one click icon in my speed dial got me directly in to the list of posts (no login issues).......posts I've already read were highlighted in one color....new posts in another...............one additional click to respond....I was in and out in a couple of
minutes......the AKA forum has virtually none of these features....4) lively discussion by a multitude of killie hobbyists....at all levels of the hobby.....and at all levels of discussion.......regarding moderation, I assure you it will be handled differently here.............I think this forum format can succeed as it has several advantages over others and certainly mimics the old killietalk which we know was successful......but ABOVE ALL ELSE, success will be measured in the amount of participation by interested killie hobbyists.....there is NO substitute for this....so I ask killie hobbyists (young and old) to register on the site and give it a shot.......if you just sit back and wait for someone else to provide a solution, it is not going to happen..........you must realize that you yourself are the solution.........act on it.

Hello,

I don't know how accurate it is about forums dying. A forum I am a part of has enjoyed a resurgence as of late as people have gotten fed-up with Facebook's rules. As regards the AKA forum, the technical issues involved have been an hindrance. I do think perhaps the time is ripe to try an killifish email list again but ground rules will need to be established to try curtail the "jerk" problem. The demise of Killietalk was a multifaceted problem with the list admin coming under fire from multiple fronts making killing he list the simplest solution. We may not have this problem now as this incarnation is independent of the AKA. Never the less, setting up some sort of public mechanism to vote people off who are troublesome rather than leaving it to one list administrator might be one way to go.

I think the majority of AKA members and would-be-newbies are pretty tech-savy and could handle this platform. It is certainly easy to to use. I hadn't logged in in ages and had little difficulty finding this forum and replying.

Bye
