This solid beta version of Symantec's Java development environment ups the ante for rival products, such as Borland's JBuilder.

Pros: ..........................................(plenty)

Cons: None significant

Yawn.

Although, Maggie Biggs is at least ten times smarter, and a thousand times more attractive than me, I beg to differ with her assessments on the cons. I totally agree with her technical assessments that Cafe may edge out JBuilder in some or many respects. Granted that this is only a technical review, and it should only be considered that.

On the non-technical issue, I have only one question: Name one compiler or database product from Symantec that has sold a million copies prior to VCafe?
The answer: None significant (Right? shane :-)

Although BI has been eclipsed by MS. But MS is a monopoly, so the comparison to MS is not fair. On its own though, here are BI programming tools and database products that have gone platinum (a million copies or more):
1) Turbo Pascal
2) Paradox
3) dBase/VdBase
4) Turbo C++/Borland C++
5) Delphi (a remake that went platinum the second time)

Waiting in the wing to go platinum:
BCB (someday)
JBuilder (sure thing)
VisiBroker (done)

I wish success to VCafe because it's a good thing for Java. And what's good for Java is also good for BI because of expanded size of the market. Enough for my long lecture.

Back on with the Yocam's Rally.
