I'm not sure who is the leader. Some of the people I worked with went to Finisar which became II-IV that bought Coherent and took that name. Others stayed and were eventually spun off as Avago which has the ticker AVGO but took the name "Broadcom." My guess is both are leaders and competitors and there could be a few others.

It will be informative to listen/read the conference call notes. If the CEO says they have more AI related data center orders than they can currently build and they have to plan and add capacity... it could rocket as an AI play... but if they are just using the AI name to stop the sell-off... we'll see.

This conference call is well worth reading.

After just the first few questions, my take is they have $200M more AI related datacom orders than they are comfortable counting for FY 2024 because they don't have the capacity and supply chain locked up. It is possible they could get that done in the next quarter.

If it was Nancy Pelosi as the CEO, I'd say they sandbagged now because their yearly options price this week after Q4 earnings were announced...
