Janice,

Gandmother D. remembers the tape you describe and believes it was Cellophane tape, a forerunner to the Magic Tape by the same manufacturer. Cellophane tape discolored and cracked and left an ugly residue which was nearly impossible to remove. I believe Cellophane is highly flammable too. (Where is Alex when we need him.)

Grandmother D. is trying to remember whether or not we had a type of tape then which peeled cleanly and completely without marring that to which it had once been affixed. Anybody out there know?

Yes, I think that was a stunningly written paragraph for xx entendres, and so does Grandmother D. Grandmother D. is not easily impressed either.
