Thanks FWIW, I don't mind readling long, technical papers. They are easy to read their objectives, scan the details and study the conclusion then look back on any details I want more info about. What I don't like is videos. This article from your link was good covid19criticalcare.com I'm glad your case was mild and you recovered quickly. Most people I know have had it by now, were vaccinated and recovered fairly quickly. Some escaped infection despite intimate contact with an infected person when they were most contagious. I believe the original science said masking and social distancing would lower the peak demand on hospital resources but the area under the curve would increase meaning more people overall would get it. The hope was over time we'd develop treatments, vaccinations, etc. that would do what they've done.... lower death rates. I agree that masks and social distancing are probably not needed now, but there is a push here to mask up if going to high traffic areas. We just had HUGE crowds to see two of the most famous female entertainers at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. If it is a problem again, then I'd expect to see a huge spike in infections from these mass events where I've seen pictures of unmasked women jumping up and down, dancing, hugging and screaming during the shows which was all frowned upon when stadiums first opened. Public transit to and from the events was packed too. All I've heard case wise is COVID is spiking again in our Santa Clara county wastewater... 60,000 are leaving Burning Man now after a week of "sharing." People in the news so far seem to be more concerned with "foot rot" and issues with pathogens in mud than they are with COVID. They were unable to service the porta potties so I expect there to be some nasty stuff in the mud...
