From what I've heard the cure was worse than the bite because people stopped getting their cancer screens so more breast, colon and prostate cancers were not caught early enough for 100% cure. My guess is we had several years of marginal people not getting statins when they aged into when they would benefit also... you could expect higher death rates from heart disease.

It is probably a bit too early to know for sure what all the causes and effects were. Clearly it was not over in a few months as the president at the time said it would be... nor was it good for kids to miss school... which in California were shut mostly because the teachers as a group are obese (and probably many enjoyed getting paid to not come to work but do lessons online from home) and thus high risk and forced the state to keep the schools shut despite how it hurts the kids. Workers making a FRACTION of the salary we pay teachers here in California without their generous pensions were showing up to work daily and seeing thousands of people checking out groceries, stocking shelves, etc.... it amazes me there is not more resentment towards public employees who get union pensions, health care and lots of time off....
