> Regulations are... the problem.

You don't need to educate ME about regulations. I was a building contractor 35 years. I've seen a lot of stupidity. Both among builders and regulators.

Would you like NO regulations? He he I wouldn't.

If you would like only RATIONAL codes made by intelligent bureaucrats and enforced by intelligent inspectors...

HOW WOULD YOU DO THAT? See you complain but have no solution.

I once worked on an inspector's home. He knew I was the best, they all knew it. He didn't want to tell me what he did for a living because he thought I'd complain about him "being too hard" on guys like me.

I surprised him... for years inspectors have been passing sub-code work in my area of construction. Not just sub-code that didn't matter. Sub-code that was going to cost homeowners thousands of dollars of repair costs. Its a matter of PERCENTAGES of failures. I told him so "You guys are too lax."

Suffice it to say inspectors CANNOT know everything. Modern buildings are incredibly complex. All humans fuck up. I got along with inspectors quite well and most competent builders feel the same way.

The worst problem builders have is with incompetent architects and even worse homeowners doing their own designs. We ALL think architects should have 2 years in the field before they design anything. Homeowners are almost always stupid as hell. I was almost NEVER asked my opinion... but a few smart people remodeling their own homes did ask. They were always very happy with my website and my advice.

You tell me how to fix "regulations." Big mouth.

> NIMBYISM it's just a tactic used by existing homeowners to protect their home values from dropping.

DUH! Yes white collar selfishness. Put the problem in SOMEBODY ELSE's neighborhood... like the poor?

We're all in this together like it or not. Rich kids are addicts just as much as poor kids... why should all the halfway houses be in poor neighborhoods? SELFISHNESS.

I feel so bad for parents who lose a kid to fentanyl... but I'm also angry when they blame it on drugs instead of drug prohibition. There'd be ZERO deaths from fentanyl if we decriminalized.

----

> That's the problem with decriminalizing drugs. It simply isn't working, at least not in a vacuum.

Yes it does. It works much better than our system in rational European countries. Again I think YOU think there's a perfect solution. Alcohol prohibition didn't work AT ALL... more people drank booze. Many died or went blind from bad wood alcohol BECAUSE of prohibition. Brothers, sisters, moms, dads, friends. And the Mafia became rich and corrupted law enforcement.

1) Decriminalizing stops enriching REAL bad evil organized crime
2) regulated drugs don't kill people's children, they aren't corrupted with fentanyl.
3) regulated drugs are cheaper actually very inexpensive... less reason for addicts to break into cars etc
4) its a proven fact drug users can hold down jobs, I've known many, doctors, lawyers who were addicts. In fact I believe doctors and dentists have higher rates of addiction than the general public.
5) Decriminalization doesn't mean legalization. Busted addicts have to attend classes about drug addiction. This doesn't mean education gets them sober. But if and when they do try to get sober education is a big help to many of them.

It works well in rational countries. MUCH better than our revolving door system of putting addict in jail/crime schools where when they get out they only have crime skills and they can't get jobs or student loans because of their records.

> What works is tough love on addicts.

I know way more sober addicts than you do. You don't understand addiction. Even doctors don't understand addiction very much.

You think tough love works? Just mentally beating addicts? Tell that to any cigarette smoker. My mom died from lung cancer... do you think that was enough to convince my brother to quit? Sheech.

I met an alcoholic once who got drunk in a bar, caused a fight, got hit over the head with a pool cue and lost most of his sight. His doctor told him if this happens again you'll be blind. He did it again anyway... he was 100% blind when I met him.

You are a smart man, think it through.

Even better take some time to attend an "open" AA speaker meeting or an NA speaker meeting. Anyone can attend open meetings. I've been to some that were god damn hilarious. Better than comedy clubs. The stories addicts tell are astounding. That blind guy? He robbed the Blind Institute in LA before he became blind.

I've known a few drug addicts, nothing works on them but death, if they don't want to quit, nothing will change their minds
