Anyone, I've noticed the i740 3D/2D graphics chip got released
earlier than expected. Does anyone know if the 440BX chip set
is also coming out prematurely? Are there any vendors who might
be making or using such motherboards that will allow 100 MHz
traffic. Is anyone beta testing 440BX motherboards?

Ken - Re: "...peripheral cards, and would contain the parallel, serial, modem functions on on card, preferably using ASIC's (Application Specific Integrated Circuits) which are 'pluggable' for the most part to allow 'upgrades' "

Parallel/Serial port functions have been integrated into SuperI/O chips and are currently part of most motherboard designs - soldered or socketed - no plug-in cards required.

Also, the floppy disk controller and hard disk controller functions are are also included on chip sets and/or these super I/O chip sets.
