I can't argue that anything you said is wrong so, yes I agree and I'm also a moderate.

Back in the 1980s before Al Gore "invented the internet" I used to have great discussions on it (I think we called it Usenet) about religion and politics with other engineers and geeks with access. I argued with the religious right that their tactics were ruining the GOP and pushing moderates away with their stance on abortion. I argued with the left that their punish with taxes policies were driving jobs, especially the ones in tech I was designing products for, out of the country. The Libertarian party asked me if I'd consider running for local office but I was newly sober and didn't want to risk my sobriety... plus it would interfere with my windsurfing.

In the 1970s, I was a Jerry Brown democrat in college and got into great "debates" after a few drinks with my GOP grandfather at family functions. At UC Berkeley, I took 3 quarters of IDS 10 which was great, useful information about pollution, health effects, etc. where I learned the "hippies" who taught the classes had an irrational hatred of the oil industry... Being me, I took the oil industries side and argued well enough we needed oil until we had CLEAN nuclear fusion (which they were unaware of) which I was studying to go into. I got easy As since they were intelligent enough to have good debates (part of the small group classes) and I knew enough not to push too far.
