Most deaths are with a hand gun. The reason for this is the accessibility and ease of handling by kids.

If a gun is keep loaded there should never be a round in the chamber.
A double action revolver is probably the most dangerous as a simple pull of the trigger will put one in the chamber. The next pull it goes off.

A long gun, is the safest. For accidental discharge as the length of the barrel makes it hard for the muzzle to be pointed in an unintended direction if the trigger is accidently pulled.

Interesting stat.

According to the FBI data, 1,515 people were killed by knives or other cutting instruments in 2019 1 2. This is five times higher than the number of people killed by rifles, which sits at just 297 1 2 3. In addition, twice as many people were beaten to death with hands, fists, and feet than were killed by rifles 1. In 2020, a knife or cutting instrument was over 2.5 times more likely to be used in a murder in the United States than a rifle
