Chris - So glad to hear that you're getting into sector funds. With your inquisitive and imaginative nature, I look forward to hearing some new and innovative stuff.

I have used Monocle II, have investigated Investors FastTrack, and am now looking at buying the bundled OmniTrader 3.2 + Metastock 6.5 from Nirvana. (I guess I can't leave well enough alone!)

I have a couple Dynamic Asset Allocation models set up for sector funds in Monocle that are doing well. There's a lot to consider in picking the correct funds using MPT statistics, then optimizing correctly, and finally using money management technics.

An excellent article in January Stocks & Commodities entitled "Dynamic Asset Allocation" that discusses that along with Strategic Asset Allocation and Tactical Asset Allocation. I'm working to come up with a successful Tactical Asset Allocation model for my 401(k) plan.

I'll stop rambling but wanted to express my joy in your decision to investigate sector funds. As has been true with your contributing thoughts on individual stocks, I know that all us SI members will benefit from your interest in sector funds. If I can help in any way by contributing toughts of my limited experiences with sector funds, please let me know.

Chris - Additionally, regarding sector funds, I understand that Rydex may be offering as many as 14 sector funds - all no load - in the near future. As you know, Fidelity charges 3% front load. One drawback with Rydex may be their high minimum $ amount to start trading them. If I hear any more about this, I'll post.
