If Informix were taken over (which I seriously doubt), I would love to see IBM as the buyer. Although IBM would have to figure-out the DB2-IFMX product conflicts, it would do wonders for both companies:
-- Informix and IBM know how to serve large customer accounts. The acquisition would nicely complement IBM's stellar customer roster.
-- IBM would instantly buy strong partnerships with all of the ERP vendors (sans Oracle, of course)
-- IBM's name attached to Informix's product could result in an incredible windfall of new business. Who wouldn't buy the best database technology from the most stable and respected supplier to corporate IS?

The prospect of this marriage is pure fantasy, but we can always dare to dream!

Closer to earth, I'm hoping for a solid Q1 that's in the black. If Informix can show revenue growth in Q1, then I expect the stock to make solid gains. It appears from an earlier post that many analysts expect mild losses in Q1.

I think it would be the ultimate psychological carrot offered to the Enterprise (UNIX and Mainframe) community from Microsoft (to buy a UNIX product). And don't think they cannot adapt it!

What is Motif?

Anybody?

It is the GUI wrapped around UNIX, Developed from the X standard 6 years ago.

What would it take to wrap Microsoft's GUI around licenced version of UNIX?

It's probably already been done internally by MSFT.

Imagine a version of NT that can run certain UNIX programs as well as DOS, WIN 3.1, 95 and Current NT.

The GUI is just a wrapper. And IFMX is compatable with both the NT and UNIX engines at this very moment.

I hope IFMX can stand on its own. But, a buyout is very much a possibility. Just offering MHO,

Cheers!
Ed.

Dave. Would you refresh my memory? Do you work for an Informix competitor...I seem to remember that from a while back but I'm not sure. Thanks.

I agree with you Dave, even though some people in this thread may be upset. I think IFMX's profit was a reclamation of excess losses reported several quarters ago. Revenue is substantially down; significantly below SYBS. Baring any surprise, short-term, I think that IFMX will trade between $7.50 - $9.50. Expect it to go below $8 next two weeks after the euphoria subsides. SYBS would be a better buyout target.
