Some settlers' homes were also demolished rather than engage in firefights. Israel has made a calculation that this approach will save soldiers' lives in a street to street battle.

Turned out he had done this before and was working with the settlers movement. Difficult to follow on the Palestinian side since there are a lot people cheering on Hamas and how effective their war is going while on the other playing up the ethnic cleansing and mass destruction of Gaza. The same is also true in reverse on the Israeli side. Both sides displaying false bravado and playing up the empathy card.
