In an early beginning of my gardening a woman at a local nursery said tomatoes like magnesium very similar to rose fertilizer. She said when transplanting the seedlings bury the plant all except the top two whirls of true leaves. Pick off the lower leaves and plant the seedling in a trench vs. hole. The picked off leaves will sprout roots. It makes you seedling look dinky, but the additional roots quickly catch up with more growth. Ibelieve that to be true.
