> Calendar application on my old Mac used to work just find. After my last upgrade I discovered to my dismay they screwed the pooch badly, notifications disappear automatically. I suspect it was Apple's way of pressuring customers to buy phones or watches. If not someone at Apple was brain dead.

That should be an easy fix. Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Notifications > then choose Calendar from the list and change the notification style from a Banner to an Alert. Other settings can be changed there as well.

Alerts have to be manually dismissed, as opposed to Banners which will disappear automatically.

I've noticed in the past that certain system preferences get reset upon upgrading to a new operating system, though I haven't had that happen in years. Used to occur on iOS sometimes too, but again, not in years now.

Older people have less immune protection because the body loses ability to provide immune response. Being 88, I use the finger clamp device, which was invented in Japan and reads oxygen saturation by means of an infrared sensor. Would it be advantageous to have a watch that constantly monitors oxygen saturation? Yes, but only if it does an accurate job. If saturation falls below 95%, that's a sign of potential trouble. The easier it is to determine the danger signs, the better.

Also note that lung capacity declines in older people. I used to run marathons and at age 42 ran under 3 hours. No more. I start breathing hard walking up even a slight incline over a distance of less than 100 feet.

Another factor that is also important is to train oneself to be sensitive to body stress, such as walking up hill or doing related exercise. I used to shovel snow on a 200-foot driveway in about a half hour. Now, even in a light snow, it takes about 3 times longer, with rest periods. I don't need a watch to monitor pulse. I can feel it after every shovel stroke!
