Britain made tons of money because its military allowed it to rape colonies. Same as Rome... and same as Rome its military destroyed its economy. Short term colonies are profitable... long term the tax burden becomes ever greater and the populace, unused to doing actual work, like plumbing or roofing, becomes fat and lazy. Just like us. We spend more than the rest of the world combined on our military. And we even finance other country's militaries. Like Israel.
