I'm sure the AVP will be fine in the long run. The worry about some big companies (Netflix, Facebook, Google) not producing apps for it right away are overwrought. It doesn't make sense to devote engineering resources to build a custom apps when initial production numbers are so low.

Once Apple brings the price down substantially, to at least $1,500 or below, and it develops some convincing use cases or a killer app or two, the wider adoption will force the 'wait and see' companies to take it seriously. It could take two years or more before the price comes down enough for that to happen.

For the time being, the AVP will simply be a product for developers and rich people to play with.
