Bonnie and all,

Let me say that I much appreciate this thread - I have been following it for many months. It is one of the few places were I see any semblance of sanity in discussions involving finance

>>My 401K plan only gives me stock funds, and a "stable value" fund that consists of corporate short-term securities.<<

My wife and I are in exactly the same position.. My wife has a 401K and I have both a 'traditional' pension plan (in danger of being raided by politicians because it is so healthy) and a 401K. My 401K is pretty flexible but my wife's 401K has extremely limited options - basically her employers stock, a couple of aggressive growth funds, a money market fund and a bond fund. We became concerned that as the amount of money in the 401K grew it was an awful lot of eggs in a very small basket. If you come across a solution to this problem I'd very much appreciate hearing about it.
