The only thing that can be done with a 401K like this is fund switching using market timing--but that's hard to do. The overpriced tech stocks are going into these pension funds in a large way. Ours all took a huge hit during the 4th quarter. I pulled the balance of my 401K into money market early last year after looking up the funds and their largest holdings. (Now I know why Micron goes up!!!).
Pension plans are all at risk, it's very easy for them to switch securities with "essentially equivalent" ones. Unfortunately I don't have the ability to take the pension contribution with me when I leave the company, only the 401K...it would be better if we could...write your congressman, I guess!
