As is usually the case, those Ignoramuses on my IGNORE list actually know FUCKALL about Russia and its President, Vladimir Putin ..... most likely because they swallow and believe all that CRAP dished out by the likes of CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, BBC, NYT, WP, etc, etc

Vladimir Putin is a trained Lawyer and actually holds the equivalent of a Ph.D. in Economics which he obtained studying under the AMERICAN NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTE FOR INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS.
When he was in the KGB he serves as an Intelligence Officer and in order to be in that position he had to have a LAW DEGREE ------->

Ever since Vladimir Putin became the Russian Federation's President he was insistent that the new Russia MOVE AWAY from the USSR's policies of the past, especially with regard to the Russian Federation's ECONOMIC POLICIES. Therefore Russia's market economy is far more EFFICIENT and RESILIENT than the USSR's ever was.

Did Vladimir Putin call the breakup of the USSR 'the greatest geopolitical tragedy of the 20th century?'

Putin’s 2005 speech to Russians

Putin, a veteran of the Soviet spy agency called the KGB,made the comments Bolton cites in an April 2005 state of the nation address to the country’s top politicians and parliament. A version is available in English from the Kremlin archives. Putin’s words vary depending on the translation, but the idea remains the same.
From the Kremlin:

"Above all, we should acknowledge that the collapse of the Soviet Union was a major geopolitical disaster of the century. As for the Russian nation, it became a genuine drama. Tens of millions of our co-citizens and co-patriots found themselves outside Russian territory. Moreover, the epidemic of disintegration infected Russia itself."

The Associated Press translation is a little differently, subbing "catastrophe" for "disaster," and calling the breakup the "greateast geopolitical catastrophe of the century."
