Brad, something's been bugging me for the past few days, and I just figured out part of it. I guess it's a side effect of something you've done, or perhaps may be working on.

I'm in the MM and click on the link to take me to the first unread message on a thread. Before, the Previous link would appear as having been visited, since the URL was in my browser cache. However, that no longer seems to always be the case, since the URL may be different depending on how I navigated to it. Previous gives the appearance of being a non-visited message, even though I have already seen it.

Sometimes its: Message 3469454
Sometimes its: techstocks.com

I didn't explain it too well, but I think you'll see my point. Whether or not you can do anything about it remains to be seen.

Jeff, what's with the "banner free" stuff? I don't understand why SI isn't filled--every page--with ad banners.

And I know you guys don't have or want to have a salesforce for ads, so why not let someone like DoubleClick do it for you? It seems like SI doesn't want to be filled with ads or it would have been a long time ago...so I guess my question is why not?

Also, how many active members does SI have now?

For your Integrated Q & P:

When reading a subject that has a single associated common stock symbol (not the group, Welcome, or Laughter sites) it would be useful to have the latest stock quote in a corner - maybe just to the right of "Show/Remove Navigation". For space reasons, and because the markets are closed more than they are open, I would prefer the last bid price, but perhaps you could allow preferences to be selected in case others want bid/asked, last trade, or other info.

Brad, As long as we are loading up on new features, how about this:

Include 5 or 6 "favorite links" in our profiles with both the URL and a "short" name such that they will show up on 5 or 6 buttons just under the top of the display as "instant link" buttons. This way, we can configure our most favorite sites to visit but use SI as our "home base".

Sure, we have bookmarks, but I like checking on portfolio values in several accounts, getting option prices, etc., and a short series of "hot buttons" would be nice. If I could get rid of Netscape's built-in buttons and replace them, this would be great, but no such luck!

I like the Subjectmarks and Peoplemarks. I like to follow a number of people, but to link back to the Peoplemarks from a particular post I must go to "View Subjectmarks" first. Is it possible to add a link named "View Peoplemarks" next to the existing "View Subjectmarks" link at the bottom of each page that appears when reading a post ?

I'm impressed that you have held out and not caved into the pressure of allowing SI to be purchased by another company or heavily controlled by any venture capitalists. You're all truly unique and are sitting on a gold mine. Do you have any plans in participating in any significant alliances ?

Cheers

Java Quote Capability...

>>>We're building an easy-to-use, banner-free, portfolio system with 15 minute delayed quotes. It will be tightly integrated with the SI message boards so that it's easy to hop from a quote to the message boards and vice versa. I think you'll like it.
*********************************************************************
Brad:

Would it be possible to have a JAVA type ticker integrated into the threads so we can see the delayed quotes for a particular thread flash across each message as we read it? This will allow us to stay in the thread rather than switch out of the thread to a quote page... This should increase the efficiency of moving through the threads more rapidly...

An enhancement to this would be to also have any news headline for the day also move across each message along with the quote... SI would be the first on the Web to have this...

Jim

Subj: ie4.0x Back click down list of recent pages doesn't show full message number when the Subject is long. See COBR (Cobra Electronics) Breakout.

Could you put the message number at the beginning of the line? That is, the line that shows up when you click the down arrow to the right of Back?

Thanks, as always.
