Thanks for the info.

Did you account for the cost of the Prius battery vs that of the MBZ? My BMW X3 is "almost" a hybrid in that it charges the battery when decelerating to use for all the electrical stuff, but it doesn't have an electric motor. This gives better MPG as the engine doesn't have to run harder to charge the battery. Still, I wore out two batteries, one on warranty, before I learned to charge the battery every two weeks unless I went on a 50-mile trip so the battery would charge itself and not get damaged by almost fully discharging. Those batteries were EXPENSIVE and I've heard the Prii replacements are even more so.

You should account for the cost of the PHEV battery when doing your spreadsheet, perhaps amortize it over its expected life.

That PHEV is the way to go for sure. We've kept my GF's Lexus going great for 20 years, but I'm encouraging her to look at PHEVs to replace it someday since all she drives is short trips.

Also, the Prii are much, much better looking than in the past. My only gripe with them used to be the owners were road boulders driving as slow as possible on the freeway to get max MPG. Perhaps our traffic is so bad I don't notice that any more or the drivers care more about wasting less time in traffic than saving a few dimes on gasoline
