Roy fascinating timing for that info on Brocade's 'new switch'. Were you surprised that ANCR opened up price neutral this morning?

Brocade Switch to OEM at less than $1000 per port (that's a new low
water mark.) So... while they may be endusers of ANCR, their OEM deal
may goto Brocade.<<<

On the other hand I'm sure Brocade must be jumping for joy today that IBM is using Ancor switches at their corporate campus.

Roy,

I am confused. Why would Brocade start to introduce a new switch, when their present switch is in evaluation at the different OEMs. Would this not confuse the OEMs and potentially cause them to delay decisions. I hear they already have their hands full at sequent and no one has seen their FC-AL working. If they are talking to OEMs about their "new 8 port switch", does this mean that they have given up on their present switch being able to get the business. The product cycle seems a little off to me.

Do they have any working prototypes of this "new switch" or are these
just talks.

Tom

If Brocade wants to believe that they have sewn up IBM, that's fine with me. Brocade/adam/wilhu were saying the same thing about SUN 9 months ago.

One thing I will agree with is that this particular data back-up application has nothing to do with any envisioned potential Storage OEM relationship. From what I understand the IBM IT manager found out about Ancor on the WWW, made some inquiries and the Ancor salesforce followed up..I guess the Internet is good for something, afterall.

At the very least, IBM makes a great reference account for horizontal applications of data back-up.

Roy S., Thanks for your ongoing participation on the thread.
Way back in Feb. you said that IBM was looking for a low cost, smaller switch and that Brocade could get it;
Message 3472467

You also suggested that the market isn't integrated enough and that those who don't have solutions will have a hard go of it.

Message 3532210

You probably aren't surprised at todays turmoil, and have recently said
that ANCR may not be a bad buy at these prices.

If ANCR needs more help and resources than it has would anyone
want to partner/merge with them?

Do you have any suggestions for them that you can offer?
Thanks
