I don't know enough history to argue with you that most momentous events in history were not presaged by the appearance of comets. But, in Babylonian and Ptolemy astrology, the forerunners of 'modern' astrology, comets were generally considered as harbingers of gloom-and-doom scenarios and so are some eclipses. And, of course, there have been momentous events that seemed to have been presaged by comets. For example, the Battle of Hastings in October 1066 and WWI (1914-1918) were presaged by Comet Halley which was also associated with a number of other events. However, my memory does not serve me well at this time.

Perhaps it is fair to say that comets do portend some momentous events but not all of them. Perhaps this matter requires more research and study. And I believe, as I write, research is going on.

On an aside not related to the above, someone once said, "God can't be everywhere, so he created mothers!"

Hi Father Terrance, >>>>Many years are eventful in human history -- most are not presaged or accompanied by a comet.<<<<

There is some evidence that Hale-Bobp passed thru our system at the approximate time of Noah.

Also didn't the heavens lead the wise men to the manger of the Baby Jesus?

regards,
bobby
