The Democratic National Committee has insisted that President
Clinton's legal problems are not hurting campaign donations. This
evening, the President seems to be proving that, with a $25,000-per-
couple dinner at the New Jersey home of real estate tycoon David
Steiner.

>> don't know if Rob Morse is the SF Examiner's lead columnist

Actually, I understated it, as I am prone to do. From their own web page: Rob Morse: The lead columnist in the lead section of the Examiner. http://www.sfgate.com/columnists/

>>When I referred to the Brown Dynasty in California, let me add for clarification that son Jerry Brown's two terms as Governor were preceded by his father, Edmund G. "Pat" Brown's terms as Governer. The Brown Dynasty was interrupted by President Ronald Reagan's serving in that office.

RR more than interrupted the Browns, he effectively ended the political careers of both, "Pat" in 1966 by taking the guvship and son Jerry in 1982 when RR recruited Wilson and campaigned extensively for him. (Although Jerry is now running for mayor of Oakland).

>>BTW, Kathleen Brown (Pat's daughter, Jerry's sister) is our State Treasurer and is quite unlike the other two Browns, politically.

Yup, unlike the other two, she ran for guv and lost. I believe her political career is over too. (Also, Matt Fong is your State Treasurer.)

Bring on the next Brown.

Btw, The LBJ documentary on PBS was not that great. It was primarily old stuff from about 1990. They had Robert Dalleck whose version of history has since been thoroughly discredited by Robert Caro.

They did, however, seem to accuse LBJ as more than wanting both Kennedy's dead. And then they both were.
