Motherboards...Intel .... Tyan

Some opinions:

>> Based on my experience with my Atlantis motherboard, I specified a DK440 for my company's new graphics computer. Our vendor says the Tyan Tiger S1692D is better built and featured.

As a loyal Intel customer, I would like to refute his position. Can anybody help me out with this?

Hello,

I'd like to help you in your discussion if possible. As far as features go, the DK440LX is far superior to the Tyan Tiger S1692D. The Tiger doesn't have any kind of on-board SCSI, where as the DK440LX has a dual channel controller. The Tiger doesn't have onboard ethernet, no onboard sound. The Tiger really isn't Tyan's closest match to the DK440LX, the Tyan Thunder 2 is. The Thunder 2 is almost identical feature wise as the DK440LX, except that it doesn't have onboard ethernet, however has wavetable sound and some temperature sensing features. I had contemplated which motherboard to choose
for quite some time, and felt as you do, satisfied with previous Intel purchases. However found out that DK440LX is not easy to get your hands on, due to back ordering, but I was fortuate enough to get one. I have been very happy with my decision. I have heard from other system integraters that they have had success with the Thunder 2 as well. So I'd say that if you can get your hands on a DK440LX, go for it.

I have to agree with Jason's post. I examined the Tyan Tiger and Thunder as well as the DK440LX prior to building a new system for myself. The Tiger does not have the onboard SCSI and other features present in the DK440LX. The Thunder does have comparable features but has been plagued by a number of problems which Tyan has been very slow to respond to. Take a look at their newsgroup at alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.tyan.

If you can find the DK440LX, I think you will be happier. Mine has been rock solid.
