FYI CheckFree does have a fairly substantial customer support operation for its bill-payment services. I don't know to what extent their bank customers are seeking to provide this service themselves.

From what I know of banks, many of them would be fairly happy to have this cost handled by CheckFree. That said, many of the call generators from bill-pay services gradually disappear over time as the system improves in its reliability, and ability to provide automated audit or tracking information as to what the status of a payment is.

CheckFree is certainly well ahead on these dimensions of the service compared to where they used to be, or come to that, compared with Intuit Services (and I know, I work for Intuit).
