Ed, Arakis is the only company to have hired mercenatries to fight alongside of government soldiers....The CIA World Factbook, available here on the Internet, is a great source of information on all types of data in Africa except for ethnic and religious data. The data is dated. For ethnic/religious data, I think that the World Alamanac is pretty good.... The Africans comprise about 40% of the ethnic base of the Sudan, about 12,000,000 of 30,000,000 people. IMO about 60% of the Africans are Christians, 10% Muslims, and 30% are traditional religions. The 10% who are Muslims as you would surmise live largely in the northern or Arabic portion of the Country.... The main point is that the SPLA must represent a whole lot more peole than just 5% of the population base or else they could not field and maintain such a large fighting force.... As to total lack of news coverage on the Sudan Civil War- my guess is that lack of access tot he battlefield is the reason that there is so little coverage in the world press. In comparison the Bosnian and Iraqi governments freely allow reporters into battle zones, at theri own risk of course.... Here the NIF government restricts access of reporters to the battle zone.... Also as to other concessions, there is minimal action on those concession holders as they adopt a "wait and see" attitude toward development until the civil war subsides.... Also take a look at oilfield service stocks too, for e.g., I own a few shares of ESV... The worldwide tightness in oil supplies will be a real factor over the next ten years IMO, and make this sector attractive for investing.... Especially as African countries economies join the world economic revolution Sincerely, SDoug F. Sincerely, Doug F.
