The fact is, the vast majority of users have one hard-disk and access to external storage devices is controlled by administrators who don't want utilities automatically spilling over onto network drives. These systems are partitioned for a reason and backup software could easily be compromised by utilities designed to override those restrictions. It's doubtful any such utility would be allowed within ten feet of a network and as I said, you have to have several hard-disks to derive any of the purported benefits anyway.

BD is the ultimate stop-gap measure: it automatically propagates the user's capacity problems onto his other disks. There is precisely nothing revolutionary about dumping files onto another partition if the one you are working with fills up and it's fraught with problems.
